Process Instrumentation > Level Instruments > Bi-Color Level Gauge
Principle

Bi-colour  gauge is in fact a transparent gauge with its liquid chamber in a wedge shape section and fitted on a rear side with an illuminator. Immediately in front of the light source in the illuminator, two colour filters-one red and one green are fitted. The optical separation of steam and water space is based on the differential refraction of light in steam and water.

   Specificaitons
  • C/C :
    • Upto 60"
    • (Others on request)
  • Materials :
    • ASTM A105 or ASTM A182F 316
  • Glass :
    • Toughened Borosilicate / Aluminium Silicate
  • Fasteners
    • ASTM A- 193 Gr. B7/A -194 GR. 2H
  • Connections: Flanged or Welded.

When a red light ray enters the water, it is deflected side wards and absorbed. When it enters the steam space, it passes through unhindered and appears in the indication as "red". Light rays which pass through the green filter are absorbed in the steam space but pass through water space unhindered and the water is seen as "green".

Applications

   Saturated steam :

Up to 2610 psig (180 bar) Above 1015 psig (Above 70 bar) round glasses with circular port opening on liquid chamber is offered for viewing.

   Indication :

Water space "green" and steam space "red".
